Field-Repairable UGV Design

Repairability is engineered through access, modules, tools, documentation and repeat testing.

Field repair is the ability to diagnose, safely replace or restore a defined component and confirm return to service. It begins during layout design rather than after the first failure.

Mission context

Repair time depends on access, module mass, fasteners, available tools, spares and instruction quality. A sealed design may be strong yet create a long logistics delay.

Engineering approach

HARDY considers service openings, replaceable units, understandable connections and repair of composite parts as part of the architecture. The repaired configuration is recorded and checked.

What must be demonstrated

Repairability should be measured through practical tasks.

  • diagnosis, access and replacement time;
  • required tools, materials and skills;
  • post-repair functional test and configuration record.

Limits and responsible claims

Not every damage state is suitable for field repair. Boundaries depend on structural safety, electrical condition and operator procedure.
